Ashford is the MotorCables intelligent shopping assistant.
Instead of searching through hundreds of cables, connectors, adapters, voltages and specifications, simply tell Ashford what you are trying to connect.
You can be technical if you want to be.
You don't have to be.
“I need a 16A extension lead.”
“I need to connect my American drill to a yellow transformer.”
“I've got a red 32A socket and need a normal UK socket.”
“I need a motorhome hookup cable about 20 metres long.”
Ashford works out what you mean, searches the MotorCables catalogue and helps you find the right products.
[ Ask Ashford ]
One of the reasons we built Ashford is because electrical connectors are not always described the same way by everyone.
You might call something:
a blue plug
a caravan socket
a commando connector
a site plug
a three-phase plug
a yellow transformer connection
a normal UK plug
That's fine.
Describe what you have and what you are trying to do.
Ashford is designed to translate ordinary language into the electrical requirements needed to search our catalogue.
For example:
You say:
“I need a lead from a normal UK plug to the blue socket on my motorhome.”
Ashford can interpret that as a UK BS1363 supply connection leading to the appropriate blue CEE connection used by the motorhome and then search for matching products.
You shouldn't have to translate your problem into catalogue terminology before asking for help.
Ashford isn't simply a chatbot with a product search attached.
Behind the conversation is a small specialist system we've built specifically for MotorCables.
Ashford is the person you talk to.
His job is to understand what you're trying to achieve, explain things clearly and guide you through the available options.
Ashford has access to structured information about MotorCables products, including connectors, current ratings, voltage, phase, cable type, length and other technical information.
The catalogue system searches actual products rather than asking the AI to invent a suitable cable.
Launch Ashford from any product page on MotorCables and Ashford will know what it is you are looking at. you can ask him for more information on that actual product and ask advice, will it work for, can I use it for?
For more complicated requests, the Duty Manager helps coordinate the conversation and determine what information is actually needed.
Its job is also to stop Ashford asking unnecessary questions.
If you ask for a 32A extension lead, for example, Ashford should start by showing relevant 32A extension leads rather than asking you to explain what an extension lead is.
Questions should only be asked when the answer could materially change which product is suitable.
If your conversation changes from product advice into a customer-service problem, Ashford can recognise that too.
Supervisor Mode is designed for issues such as an order problem, damaged product, complaint or situation that needs human attention.
Instead of repeatedly asking you to explain everything again, Ashford can gather the useful details in a structured way so the MotorCables team can investigate.
There are no special commands to learn.
Just describe the job.
The most useful information is normally anything you already know about:
What you are connecting from
For example: UK wall socket, generator, blue 16A socket, red 32A outlet or EV charger.
What you are connecting to
For example: motorhome, floor grinder, machine, distribution board, caravan or another connector.
Current rating
If you know it: 13A, 16A, 32A, 63A etc.
Voltage or phase
If relevant: 110V, 230V, 400V, single-phase or three-phase.
Length
For example: 5m, 10m, 20m or 50m.
But don't worry if you don't know all of those things.
Tell Ashford what you do know.
Ashford can show suitable 16A extension leads and, where necessary, narrow the results by connector type, phase or length.
That's already a very specific request. Ashford should be able to go directly to suitable products without interrogating you first.
Ashford can look for suitable three-phase-to-230V converter or distribution products and determine whether another detail, such as 16A or 32A input, is required.
Ashford can identify the likely electrical requirements and ask only the questions necessary to determine the connection you actually need.
That's fine too.
Ashford can begin with the most likely options and narrow them down with you.
Ashford isn't limited to finding products. You can ask him to explain connectors, specifications and differences between suitable products.
You don't need to write:
Source connector: BS1363 plug. Destination connector: IEC 60309 16A 2P+E socket.
You can simply write:
“Normal UK plug to blue 16A socket.”
You can even continue naturally:
“Make it 20 metres.”
“Do you have one in Titanex?”
“What about 32A?”
“Add that one to my basket.”
Ashford is designed as a conversation, not a search form.
That's good too.
Technical customers can give Ashford precise specifications.
For example:
“32A 5-pin red 400V plug to 230V 16A blue sockets.”
“16A 230V CEE extension, H07RN-F 2.5mm², 25 metres.”
“Type 2 EV to 32A single-phase CEE.”
The more specific your request is, the more directly Ashford can search.
He shouldn't ask questions whose answers you've already provided.
Finding something that technically matches isn't always the end of the job.
You can ask questions such as:
“Which of these is better for outdoor use?”
“Why is this cable thicker?”
“What's the difference between 1.5mm² and 2.5mm²?”
“Can this run a 3kW machine?”
“Do I need an extension lead with that?”
Ashford can use the product information together with electrical reasoning to help explain the options.
Where an important detail is unknown, he should tell you rather than guess.
Once you've found what you need, Ashford can help you continue shopping without starting again.
You can ask him to add suitable products to your basket and then continue the conversation.
That also means you can say things such as:
“I need an extension for that as well.”
or:
“Do I need anything else?”
Ashford can look for relevant complementary products rather than treating every request as an entirely new search.
Where Ashford Checkout is available, you can move directly from the conversation towards checkout.
Ashford Mobile Commerce is designed specifically for customers shopping on a phone.
Rather than squeezing the desktop assistant into a small window, the mobile version provides a larger commerce-focused interface where you can talk to Ashford, view products and build your basket.
Your conversation and shopping journey are designed to stay together as you move between recommendations and products.
Not ready to order yet?
Where available, Ashford can email your basket or recommended products to you so you can return to them later.
If you choose to subscribe to MotorCables updates, that remains a separate choice.
Generic AI assistants may know what an industrial connector is, but they don't necessarily know what MotorCables actually manufactures or stocks.
Ashford's catalogue layer is specifically connected to our products.
That distinction is important.
The AI interprets what you are trying to achieve.
The catalogue system determines which MotorCables products match those requirements.
This separation is deliberately built into Ashford.
It reduces the risk of an AI simply inventing a product or selecting something because its name sounds appropriate.
Sometimes there genuinely isn't enough information to choose safely between products.
For example, a customer asking for:
“A three-phase extension lead.”
might need either a 16A or 32A product.
In that situation Ashford may ask:
“Is it 16A or 32A?”
That's useful.
Asking ten questions before showing anything isn't.
Our aim is for Ashford to make progress with the information you've already supplied and only interrupt when the missing information matters.
You can tell Ashford:
“I don't know.”
You can describe the connector.
You can explain what equipment it is attached to.
You can provide the rating written on the machine.
You can even approach the problem from the other direction:
“This is the socket I've got. What can I connect to it?”
Ashford will work with the information available.
Ashford can explain products, specifications and compatibility, but electrical equipment still needs to be used within its proper ratings and application.
Where installation, protection, wiring modifications or other electrical work is required, appropriate professional advice may also be necessary.
If Ashford doesn't have enough information to make a responsible recommendation, he should say so.
Ashford isn't an off-the-shelf chatbot.
We built him because selling specialist electrical cables online presents a particular problem.
Customers often know exactly what they're trying to achieve without knowing the industry name or technical description of the product they need.
Traditional website filters expect the opposite.
Ashford is our attempt to bridge that gap.
He combines conversation with the MotorCables catalogue so you can begin with the problem rather than the product name.
And we keep improving him based on the questions customers actually ask.
Don't worry about getting the terminology right.
Don't try to work out which website category you need.
Don't fill your question with specifications you aren't certain about.
Just start with:
and tell Ashford what you're trying to do.
